Bard Edlund

edb

I was born in Oslo, Norway, in 1977. I have been creating art, both with and without computers, since my childhood. In the spring of 1996, I was accepted at the Maryland Institute College of Art, one of the top three art colleges in the United States. I was also awarded the CV Starr Scholarship for "Outstanding Achievements in the Visual Arts." This is why I now live in Baltimore.

In 1994, when I was sixteen years old, I started writing for Multimediaworld in Norway (an IDG publication). Shortly after, I established my own website. After experimenting with a couple of concepts, I ended up with a site called Pandemonium. The most important ingredient was my portfolio of digital art.

The website received quite a few awards and honorable mentions (among them: two reviews in Netsurfer Digest and a feature in Scandinavia Online, one of Norway's most visited websites), and it led to freelance work for "Kanal 1" (Channel 1), Norway's first and biggest mediahouse with Internet as the primary medium. Pandemonium also led to a freelance illustration contract with a respected photographer called CF Wesenberg. His company "Kolonihagen" serves as a sort of an agent studio for me in Norway.

One of the works of art displayed in Pandemonium, that can also be seen in Ohzone, is called "Keep Talking." This image was a co-operation with the great American cartoonist Ted Rall. Ted was awarded the John F Kennedy Editorial Cartooning award in 1995, and was nominated for the Pullitzer prize in 1996.

Some of my visual creations can be seen in The Centripedus Rogue's Gallery and in The Blue Window Gallery. I also have works of art on display in the New York-based webzine Common Boundaries. This great site features underground art, reviews and poetry, and it attracts somewhere in the neighborhood of 50,000 visitors per month.

In fall '96, I contributed to Craig Patchett's book "The Ray Dream Handbook," published by Charles River Media. The book discusses the 3D software application Ray Dream Studio's finer details.
