Jon Neuse has been making and teaching art for the last 45 years. He represents the world around him in abstract images that are evocative and personal. Neuse has exhibited work in Santa Fe, San Francisco, Denver and New York City and is represented in private and corporate collections nationally and internationally. He is currently represented in Minneapolis at Circa Gallery and in Chicago at Peter Bartlow Galley.
Playfulness, experimentation and judgment are the principles behind Neuse's art. He begins all work whimsically not knowing exactly how it will look in the end. He experiments to make the visual relationships taut, constantly judging whether or not formal artistic elements are resolving themselves into lasting relationships.
Neuse was born and raised in Southwest Texas, attended college in Chicago and served in the Peace Corps in Afghanistan. From 1972 to 1990 he worked in management and training positions in hospitals and computer companies and taught in universities and colleges. In 1990 he left a promising business career to make art full time after completing a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Minnesota in 1987.
