Bill Maier is a burnt-out computer programmer who continues to program because it pays the bills. Computer graphics has been an interest of his for many years. He began his career by getting degrees in mathematics and physics, then promptly began writing software -- go figure. However, he never lost his love for the beauty of mathematics, and with raytracing he has found a way to combine this with his love of art.
