Michael A Maier

I'm a graduate from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a B.F.A. in painting. I've been working digital since 1989. Currently, I work at Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, IL and teach at College of Dupage, Glen Ellyn, IL. I've worked in a wide range of media. Prior to learning how to use computers I did a lot of spray enamel work on concrete and found objects. I've always been interested in how people communicate with each other-- How we make sense out of what we receive. I focus on the visual form of how we receive information. I use a lot appropriation in my work. I believe what I take in becomes a part of me and is fair game for inclusion in my work. However, I hope I've never crossed the fine line from appropriation and into plagiarism.

I'm looking for critical feed back on my work. That's one thing I miss with my two jobs. However, the _NET_ exposes me to the whole world and I don't have to leave my desk. Strange, huh? (Also any technical advice on how to make better looking GIFs. The originals are Photoshop pict and tiff files [but they are huge] and they look a lot better than these gifs. I'm not real used to working with GIFs as such).
