Have you ever wondered what happens inside a black hole, where forces are so powerful that they break down the fabric of space and time? One can only conjecture, but one will never know. It's one of the unsolvable mysteries of nature.

Ever since I read Stephen Hawking's book "A Brief History of Time", I have been fascinated by black holes, and by the possibility of creating an artificial one. Of course, a gravitational black hole can never be manufactured, since it is impossible, with our current knowledge, to generate an artificial gravitational field. But what about an electromagnetic field, produced when electric particles move through space?

Suppose one were to devise some sort of "lens" that could focus electrical energy into a single point, much like a magnifying glass focusing sunlight on a combustible object. In the second case, the heat generated would be so intense, it could set the object on fire. What would happen in the first case? That is what I wanted to find out, since focusing electrical energy into a very small area sets up a field of such an intense energy, that the structure of matter might be altered.

After two years of research and experimentation (I am an amateur scientist and entrepreneur), I have designed such a device, capable of concentrically focusing electrical energy (thegate.jpg). Then, I discovered when certain crystals are exposed to this intense electric field during their growth process, some samples form microscopic landscapes of extraordinary beauty (at least in the eye of this beholder :)).

Each crystal landscape created in this manner is unique, but highly unstable and disintegrates after a short time. Consequently, as soon as a crystal landscape has been formed, I photograph its most aesthetically pleasing sections, with the film negative becoming the only record of the new crystal's brief existence.

By varying the strength of the electric field (from 40,000-160,000 volts are applied), or the composition of the crystalline solution, virtually infinite variations of a crystal landscape can be created.

The photomicrographs shown here are a sample of numerous variations created from crystalline Vitamin C. Work on other crystals is in progress.

It is my intention not to become a starving artist, so for this reason, custom-produced photographs, up to 20"x30", are available for purchase. A 10% commission will be donated to SITO from any work sold here (hey, these nice guys have to eat too!).

You can reach me by e-mail about pricing, or any comments/questions you may have. But please, do NOT inquire about the design and mechanics of my electric field generator. I believe I have stumbled onto something that might turn out to be quite profitable, and I would like to have a monopoly on it for as long as possible. Ah, Dr. Frankenstein looms ahead ;).
